U. S. Str. Rush , San Francisco, June 8th, 1884. Prof. Muir, My dear Sir: I am in receipt of telegraphic orders to proceed
at once to Puget Sound for duty with the Rush and I must of course dispose of my team and everything else except what I can
carry. I should like very much to sell you the horse and small buggy. I will sell you the horse, harness, buggy, whip and
blanket for 300. The animal is in fine condition, drives free and trots fast. I wish you would come down and try him now.
I am sure you would like him. Of course if I take him to a dealer I will only get half his value. He is perfectly sound and
his feet are in excellent condition. I turned him out for 6 weeks this spring, and that fixed him all right. I would like
to sell the large carriage, but suppose you have no use for that. If you will come to Puget Sound this summer I will go up
Mount Baker or Mount Rainier with you and give you a nice trip around the Sound. Kindest regards to Mrs. M. and the baby from
self and Mrs. H. Yours truly, C. L. Hooper Address 678 17th Street, Oakland, Cal.
