November 18th, 1891. R. W. GILDER, EDITOR. R.U. JONSON, ASSOCIATE EDITOR .C. C. BUEL, ASSISTANT EDITOR. My dear Muir:-
I have your two inclosures accompanied by your note, and as the time is short before the report of the Secretary of the Interior,
I have ventured to send him copies of these letters as well as of other material relating to the reservation scheme I think
Brown suggestion a good one and will follow it up. I do not see any harm in the Southern Pacific Railroad Co working for
such a scheme Of course they expect to make something out of it, but if they make it legitimately I have no objection, and
by legitimately, I suppose they mean to make it by running the Railroad as near as possible to the Reservation. I am backing
up the Secretary of the Interior in The Century for January. I wish, however, you could find out who Havens and Stow are,
and it might be well to be sure that you are not falling into a trap. Robinson would probably take an extreme view of them.
Faithfully yours, R. K. Johnson. John Muir, Esq 01540
