Autobiography & Reminiscence of Edward H. Lenox, Oakland, Cal., 1901. The Society of California Pioneers
Edward H. Lenox was born in Lexington, Kentucky on February 19th, 1827. He lived in Rushville, Illinois and then moved to
Platte City, Missouri. On May 22nd, 1843 he started for Oregon overland across the Rocky Mountains to the Columbia River
with his father being the Captain of this first emigrant train. Mr. Lenox lived in Washington for sixteen years and moved
to the mines of California in 1848 for seven months. He then moved permanently to California in 1859 and engaged in farming
and mining
