Gardner Pipe Works workers making a concrete pipe , Orange, California, ca. 1902. Photograph is number two in a series of
photographs showing the manufacture of cement pipe at the Gardner Pipe Works, demonstrating a pipe molding process utilizing
a mold patented by H.H. Gardener. Note attached with photos reads, "Shows machine set up and men just starting to make pipe.
One man feeds while the other tamps." On the back of the note, a potential customer has written in pencil, "Will say I think
your machine is OK but I am not in the market, just now- Oblige B.H. Esb." On the right side is a wheel barrow filled with
concrete. The H.H. Gardner Company was formed in 1900 by Henry Howard Gardner, and manufactured cement pipes, bricks, ditches
and provided the cement foundation for the Orange Public Library (1905), a Carnegie Library. The company was located on West
La Veta Avenue in Orange, California. Henry Howard Gardner was born March 6, 1875 at the family's home on South Glassell Street.
