California. My dear Mr. Muir:- I trust you have, ere this, received a copy of the preliminary circular giving details
of the meeting of the Eighth International Geographic Congress, which is to assemble in America for the first time in September
next. As a member of the Committee on Scientific Program, I venture to write in the hope that you may be induced to become
a member of the Congress, and, if possible, contribute a paper on some subject of interest along the lines of your investigations.
The indications point to a notable attendance of eminent foreign and American scholars and I feel sure you would appreciate
the opportunity thus afforded to meet these distinguished men of science and participate in the formal and social sessions,
which are to take place in the several cities where meetings are to be held. The committee will be gratified if you decide
to affiliate with the Congress and, in case you desire to read a paper, they will be glad to give you every consideration
within the rules governing the presentation of papers. Titles of proposed papers should be 03339
