PACIFIC COAST DIVISION AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE University of California Library, Berkeley,
California, July 20, 1914. My dear Sir: The American Political Science Association has authorized the formation of a
Pacific Coast Branch of this Association and has appointed the following organization committee: Professor Thomas H. Reed,
Dr. David P. Barrows, Edwin Wiley, University of California, and R. S. Gray of Oakland. The initial meeting for the purpose
of organizing the Pacific Coast Branch of this organization has been appointed for July 27th, to be followed by a dinner and
informal discussion at one of the Berkeley hotels. The purpose of the American Political Science Association is the encouragement
of the scientific study of politics, public law, administration and diplomacy. This Association was founded in 1903 and contains
about 1500 members of whom over 75 are living within the Pacific Coast region. The Association publishes its Proceedings and
also the American Political Science Review. The annual dues are three dollars. I have interpreted the policy of the Pacific
Coast Division of the American Association for the Advancement of Science to warrant our giving assistance in the organization
of local branches of national scientific societies of high standing. The American Association maintains a Section for the
discussion of matters pertaining to political and social science (Section I) and the American Political Science Association
is one of the six or eight societies in this field which have05799
