letterhead Feb 10, 1899 My dear Muir - I am again a slave my neck is again under the yoker, but I hope only for a few
months. Yesterday the Board of Directors and circumstances made me President of this company, and that means I must be at
my desk every day from 9am to 5pm. I fought hard against it and had I not illegible it would only be for a short time would
never have yielded. The circumstances are these, the three companies have have been fighting each other very hard and there
is now strong probability that a consolidation will result in the near future. I wanted our people to pass the election of
officers which always occurs at the Feb 7 meeting over the 15th March meeting in hopes that the consolidation would take place
