THE PRUDENTIAL INSURANCE COMPANY Of AMERICA December 28, 1914. Mrs. Helen Muir Funk Daggett, California Dear Madam:
Having seen at newspaper notice of the death of your honored father I write to express my sympathy for you in your sorrow
and to say that I count it one of the happy incidents of my long and busy life to have spent some days with him in the Yosemite
region in the summer of 1870. I had some correspondence with him early in 1914, and enclose herewith a copy of his letter
to me, dated April 14, 1914. I furnished the list of names he requested in that letter and I asked him to advise me where
I could purchase a copy of the new book in which he proposed to mention them. If he finished the book, or left the material
sufficiently advanced for another to finish it I will thank you to so advise me. My interest is special because the lady
whom I married a year later was in that excursion to Eagle Peak, she was the first white woman ever there, and she suggested
the name Eagle Peak to Mr. Muir at the time, and he kept his promise to her that it should thereafter be so known. Before
that it was simply the highest of the Three Brothers. Yours respectfully, Nelson F. Evans
