William Kent Kentfield, Martin Co., Cal., Oct. 16, 1908 190 Mr. John Muir, Martinez, Cal. My dear Mr. Muir: I wish
to thank you for the hooks you so kindly sent and shall see that they reach their destination. Mr. John S. Phillips of the
American Magazine wrote me sometime ago requesting suggestions for future articles and I advised him that I thought your stories
would be the best thing he could run provided he could get them. The magazine would be glad to help you in any way that it
could to get your stuff together. It seems to me that your biography would be the best of all and in this the collaboration
of a man like Ray Stannard Baker would be of great assistance to you; if you could sit down and tell the story of your youth
as you told it to us it would be of immense interest and value and a few sessions would put the thing in shape so that your
subsequent revision would be comparatively easy. Your life has been so interesting and so entirely unique that an account
of it should not be lost to the world. I should consider any help I might be in making this contribution to the world literature
as one of the most important things I could do. Just at present I have a number of hard tasks on hand but would like to talk
the matter over with you and see. what could be done whenever you are ready. Yours truly, ILLEGIBLE 04301 illegible
