Dear Mr. Muir:- Your letter received some time ago, and I was sorry to learn that things look bad for Hetch Hetch Valley.
I have taken up the subject with the Applachian Club President and Secretary, and the Counsellor of porestry Exploration and
they all are anxious to be of any service possible. They all expressed appreciattion for the help the Sierra Club had given
us in similar undertakings, and ail were anxious to return the favors,- especially in such a worthy cause. As soon as you
can send copy of resolution passed by the Sierra Club, or any other matter on the subject, so that our club can take it up
in intelligent form, we will take some action right away. Your letter spoke, I believe, of sending such matter as soon as
copies were printed. Now, regarding your microscope outfit,- I just heard from the Bausch Lomb Optical Co. that they would
be able to ship your vertical illuminator by the middle of next week. I have advised them to send with it a small Bulls' Eye
condenser, which will be valuable in connection with the illuminator. This condenser is illustrated on page 71 of the Bausch
Lomb catalogue and, as explained, will enable you to condense daylight on your vertical illuminator and thence to your object,
or to throw parallel rays into your vertical illuminator when using artificial light. So far as can learn, from conversations
with the Bausch Lomb people and with others doing microscope work with opaque objects, this makes your outfit complete for
best possible work. As you left the selection of your outfit to me, I wanted you to have the best possible, and I think you
will now have it when your illuminator and condenser arrive. I enclose bill for the whole outfit, giving you discount as quoted
previously. Trusting thi3 will find you and your daughter in good health, and with best wishes, I am, Respectfully yours,
