newspapers our resolution for Yosemite recession has failed in the Assembly. I wrote to Melick others on the recipt of your
telegram and got a resolution in its favor from the Sierra Club but not soon enough to be of use at present. I also tried
to get Mr. Olney McAllister to go with me to Sacramento to speak work for the measure but at length had to go alone, though
far from being the right man for such work. I went up last Wednesday only to find that the matter had been desposed of before
I arrived. At the noon recess I spoke to a dozen or so of the Assemblymen most of them said they would have voted for recession
had they understood the matter. Melick did not let me know when the vote was to be taken so the enemys of the measure had
