Menlo Park, 3 Sept., 1902 Dear Mr. Muir: I was not thought to be well enough to go with the Sierra Club this summer, but
am now sufficiently recovered to be vaguely considering a trip to the mountains somewhere. Perhaps I am not quite equal to
going off alone, and at the season my friends are all, so far as I know, busy with their affairs. I had written to John Fox
at Millwood, but Jordan tells me he has disappeared. Dead? Do you know of any one I could employ to accompany me and do my
