ARNOLD ARBORETUM, HARVARD UNIVERSITY. Jamaica Plain, Mass., May 24, 1897. My dear Muir; Nothing new about the forestry
situation. The report has been printed a long time but for some reason or other Bliss won t let it out, being afraid, I fancy,
that it may interfere with some scheme of his own. I am writing today to ask you to tell me how many years the leaves of
Pinus Sabiniana remain on the branches. I dare say you have noticed about this and can tell me without trouble. As far as
I can judge they fall in the third year. An early answer to this question Will oblige me. In haste, faithfully yours,
illegible John Muir, Esq. 02290
