Martinez, Feb. 22 1901 My dear Mrs Jones, I am very sorry to learn that your fathers health is so poor also that you had
to depend on writing. It is very hard work ill paid uncertain. No doubt you will learn to write well. I was pleased to see
one of your articles in the Examiner. Perhaps you had better stick to the newspaper for a while. The best magazines are very
exacting. I am not acquainted with the editors of any except those of the Century Atlantic tho' I have written a little for
others. Your two articles are very interesting illustrations excellent but not sufficiently novel I fear for the Century or
Harper - you might try the Mu illegible or Puritan or Cosmopolitan But often as I have tried I never
