recession of Yosemite Martinez, Jan. 30, 1897 Mr. L. P Lukens, Dear Mr Lukens, I have just received your telegram
on the recession of Yosemite, also todays paper which shows that the bill illegible to the Assembly has been referred to the
Committee on public lands forestry. I send telegram asking for full address of Mellick Simpson the chairman of pub Lands
Committee. To all of whom I will write. A week ago we had a directors meeting of the Sierra Club at wh Olny offered a resolution
in favor of recession. Most of the directors were in favor of it. But because it was opposed by our Sec McAllister Prof Davidson
a vote was not taken awaiting a full board meeting unanimity. I'm very glad the question has been fairly launched in the
Assembly, sooner or later I think it must succeed, as it has all reason common sense on its side. Ever Yours truly John
Muir
