Gardner Pipe Works workers making a concrete pipe , Orange, California, ca. 1902. Photograph is number three in a series
of photographs showing the manufacture of cement pipe at the Gardner Pipe Works, demonstrating a pipe molding process utilizing
a mold patented by H.H. Gardener. Note attached with photos reads, "Having tamped the mold full, they hammer the top smooth
with the rimmer. Then one man collapses the core and draws it out. The core collaspses by throwing a simple little lever
like the one shown on the outside of the jacket." On the right side is a wheel barrow filled with concrete. The H.H. Gardner
Company was formed in 1900 by Henry Howard Gardner, and manufactured cement pipes, bricks, ditches and provided the cement
foundation for the Orange Public Library (1905), a Carnegie Library. The company was located on West La Veta Avenue in Orange,
California. Henry Howard Gardner was born March 6, 1875 at the family's home on South Glassell Street.
