May 30, 1908. Dear Mr. Douglas: The investigation of Mr. Muir's Arizona fossils is now nearing completion, and I hope
ere very long to be able to furnish Mr. Muir with a story about them. The immediate object of this letter is, however, to
ask you if you could obtain from Mr. Muir another specimen of the one he sent under the number 3. The plant to which it belongs
is different from anything hitherto described and will be specially described from the material supplied, but there are some
points that do not come out quite clearly in the specimen examined, and as Mr. Muir mentioned in his letter that he had duplicates
of the specimens transmitted to us through you, we should like very much to have the other portion of No. 3 for the purpose
of following up points that are still obscure. Could you get this for us? We should be greatly gratified if you could. As
I said to you before, the whole collection is an interesting one. The specific identification of much of the material is not
possible, but the features the woods show are a useful addition to our knowledge. Believe me to be, Yours, Bayley Balfour
