letterhead Jany 7th 1886 John Muir Martinez Cal Dear Brother Yours of Dec 28th came safely with its 2000 Bill of exchange.
I have placed it in bank and am looking the field over for the best place to put it in, will write you as soon as I get the
place selected. I have asked David to get up ten thousand dollars from his banks and capitalists and we would divide the
profits that would come to me. I told him to propose to them that they get their money back with 8 per annum and over half
of the net profits. In this way he would not have any liability and would get a good profit. J. and Ethel are well and happy.
I am very glad of annies improvement, My best wishes for you all, Very truly Walter Brown PS I gave J. a 27 desk and a
pretty illegible bay for Christmas and to let her see that I appreciated her literary efforts. B. 01214
