J letterhead Feb. 24, 1905 Dear Muir: Sound the loud timbrel Hurray for you Yosemite is saved, and the Lord must be
happier. I have just received your telegram on my return from a public dinner in Philadelphia, and am dee-lighted I had begun
to lose heart and fear that the machinations of the devilish illegible and its petition might prevail over the sons of Light.
I congratulate you with all my heart, my dear Muir, for you 03534 have been the heart - the fons et origo - of this movement
in which you have been so ably supported. I'll send a word to Mr. Colby. Do you remember that when we got up our scheme for
the Yosemite National Park that night on the upper Tuolumne we said, If the State Authorities dont take care of the old grant
we can have it merged in the new park - that was in 1889 and you have been working for this result for many years. It has
been a slow victory, but a great one. I rejoice with you, my dear Muir, with all my heart. Faithfully yours, R. U. Johnson.
Mr. John Muir, Martinez, Cal.
