Autobiographies and Reminiscences of California Pioneers, p. 149-169, Vol. 6. This is a typed transcript, bound into a volume,
of the member's autobiographical reminiscence created as an institutional record for the Society of California Pioneers.
This reminiscence includes a reference to a photograph of the member in a set of bound volumes, but there is no longer a photograph
of this member in our collection. The period of time represented by this biography is approximately from 1847 to 1901. Topics
covered by the reminiscence are: the subject's family history, his overland journey across the plains to California (including
geographic details), encounters with Indian tribes, and life in California mining camps. This reminiscence also contains
the subject's first impressions of San Francisco and his history of occupation.

Autobiography & Reminiscence of William Wellington White, Contra Costa, 1901. The Society of California Pioneers
W.W. White was born in Crawford County, Pennsylvania on July 8th, 1830. He left home and began work at an early age due to
the premature death of his father. He was engaged as a blacksmith's apprentice at fifteen, and upon completion three years
later decided to head west in search of gold. On March 14th, 1849 Mr. White left Erie, PA for Pittsburg, and from there St.
Louis where he joined two cousins in preparing for their cross country journey. During the trip, Mr. White contracted cholera
but soon recovered. On October 10th, 1849 Mr. White and his company reached the Weaver Creek Mine Camp. Mr. White spent
the following winter mining in different locations and in March of 1850 moved to Marysville and then to Sacramento and began
work in the freight business. Mr. White was also engaged in farming and quartz mining. Arounnd 1856 Mr. White relocated his
family to Seattle and stayed there until 1867 when he returned to California and cultivated a small farm in Contra Costa
