Hendry County near Clewiston: Except for the hyacinth-filled canal and the typical Florida palmetto, this scene might well be in the western plains. The Florida cowboy and the herd he is riding are on a cattle ranch a few miles west of Clewiston not far from Lake Okeechobee. The water in the canal which serves as a water hole for the cattle comes from the Lake, and lands in this region running westward toward Fort Myers are excellent in their plains-like formation for grazing cattle. Cattle raising is becoming a very important part of Florida's economy.
