First draft of letter,in note-book January, 1903 Mr.J.B.Lippincott, 408 Byrne Building, Los Angeles, Cal. My dear
Sir: I am heartily in sympathy with the Woman's Clubs in the work they are doing for right forestry, and am willing to assist
in every way I can. But I am already overloaded with work which I am trying to get off my hands before setting out in the
spring on a long forest ramble. I am no lecturer anyhow, and could say nothing essentially new on forest affairs if I should
speak till doom's day. With thanks to the Friday Morning Club and to yourself for the honor of this invitation, I remain,
Faithfully yours, John Muir
