MILLERL, CLERK COMMITTEE ON NAVAL AFFAIRS. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES U. S., WASHINGTON. D. C. Preston, Iowa, Oct.
31, 1907. Hon. C. A. Ficke, Davenport, Iowa. My Dear Sir:- I have your favor of 25th, the same having seen forwarded
here from Washington, and I note fully what you say. I will promptly file a protest with Secretary Garfield, and back it up
with a strong letter. A year or two ago I had a long talk with Mr. Catkins (whom I know well) regarding conditions in the
Yosemite and Yellowstone, and I found that he had possessed broad and patristic views regarding these public parks. I am certain
from the conversation I had with him at that time that his protest is founded on the broad ground of the general public interest,
and I shall endeavor to emphasize this in my letter to Secretary Garfield. Thanking you for bring the matter to my attention,
and with high regard, believe me, Very truly yours, illegible 04238
