Home Dec 31, 1913. Darling Helen Your letter of the 28th full of good news makes me happy, especially the eleven pounds
of body strength since Christmas. We are all about as usual here, Mrs Smith better, Mr Raap seems to be recovering slowly
from a paralytic stroke, most all of us are barking crowing with colds. Almost constant rain or fog. I've been been watching
the weather for a chance to go to Goldberg for some New Year odds ends but the storm continues I'll have to write an order
Wish I knew what you all best like The express box will be several days late It was Coleman who told me the 5000 arrangement
on mortgage. something broke up the plan. Give my best new year wishes to all the Funks the good old Judge Van Dyke who stood
by us in our trouble. Your devoted father John Muir
