has just brought me what he is inclined to believe is the fruit of the Sagillaria, it is a recent find of Mr. Stevenson in
the Black Forest of Arizona. I had hoped to show it to you, well knowing your interest in the subject, but I am informed
that you have returned home, after your visit here. The fruit (?) - looks like a huge almond three inches long, the texture
of which was singularly woody and hard. One end which is bruised, exhibits foliation of the internal parts, in parallel laminae,
very unusual in any fruit. We do not know any thing about it, 06337
