Martinez, Apr. 25, 1898 My Dear Johnson. I have just learned that my Senate has passed an amendment The Sundry Civil Bill
abolishing the Cleveland Forest Reservations that the matter is now in the hands of a Committee of the House. Thieves pirates
of the silent forests are now favored by the darkness of the Cuban War Clouds but I feel sure that you are awake doing all
that mortal can do on the side of the right. I suppose you have already enlightened the House Committee. See to it that the
President is duly instructed bolstered. Ever faithfully yours John Muir in margin: 35.00 wdvd 59
