Los Angeles, Cal., Jan. 2, 1911. 325 West Adams Street. Mr. J. E. Calkins, Lordsburg, Cal. Dear Mr. Calkins:-
Many thanks for your New Year's good wishes and for your cordial invitation to your home. I am now pegging away at a book
on Yosemite Valley which ought to have been written long ago. All my stuff is here and I feel like sticking to my den until
I get it off my hands. I think I told you that a book called My First Summerin the Sierra would be brought out by Houghton
Miflin nextspring. In the meantime four chapters are running through theAtlantic Monthly. I also have nearly finished a first
volumeof autobiography, describing my days in Scotland and in theWisconsin back woods. This I have not yet submitted to anyof
the publishers, as I wish to lay it aside for a few months and then tackle it again, and add to it or score out as then may
seem best. With warmest good wishes for the New Year for yourself and Mrs. Coleman and your son, and rejoicing in your present
prosperity, I am, Ever faithfull yours, John Muir 09212
