1 1419 Taylor St S.F. Feb 1st 1876 Dear Senator. I am again safe among my manuscript not the worse for my Sacramento
speech. I send you herewith Mr Goodyears memorial Petetions etc on the revival of the old survey. There can no longer be any
doubt concerning the kind of survey contemplated. Prof Whitney as you know was 2 quite eager to secure a large approp
illegible tion last session for the publication of the Vols. herein named. Having failed he now appears to be supporting Mr
Goodyear on condition that he secure the publication of his books. In any case the new survey is to be simply a revival of
the old in all its essential characters, to be in reality conducted under the auspices, for the purposes of the old ring.
