letterhead April 9th 1901 John Muir Esq Martinez Cal Dear Sir I have just received a letter from my brother Marcius
C Smith in which he tells me you are living in Martinez and I would be glad to see you when you are down at Frisco and I suppose
you remember me as I am the next oldest one of the Smith boys Charlie and I am the head book keeper for this large concern
and have been here over 10 years and I should be very glad to see you at any time and show you this establishment and go over
old times with you. Braimond? our oldest brother whom you will remember as the cripple is Clerk at the State Prison at Folsom
which posistion he has had for many years and would be glad to see you if you are illegible that way and I am Yours truly
