Martinez. May 16, 1902 Dear Dr. Merriam, We are all glad you're coming, no matter being a little late. Possibly I'll wait
and go with yon by way of Visalia and Grant Forest. Of course you will make our ranch headquarters. I lunched at Berkeley
the other day with Pres. Wheeler and the Harrimans. Had pleasant time. Thanks for your kind invitation to your Washington
home. How gladly it would be accepted were it not so continentally far and I so stupidly busy, you very well know. But the
visit shall be made some of these days and the length of it may astonish you. Remember us to the Baileys and Mrs. Merriam,
