64 First draft of letter, in note-book Martinez. Jan. 30. '05. Mr. R. B. Marshall. Dear Mr. Marshall: The President
has already refused to allow any portion of the Yosemite National Park to be invaded by railroads. so I don't like to bother
him with anything on the subject until I fully understand the difficulty in Congress. But I have written to a friend who keeps
close watch of such affairs to keep me posted. and use his influence to prevent legislation which might become a dangerous
