NEW YORK, 4 January, 1907. DEPARTMENT OF VERTEBRATE PALEONTOLOGY My dear Muir: I was delighted to get your letter of
December 29th, and am glad you agree with me that discover is better than even the highest executive office. I am hurrying
off to Egypt now on an important exploring expedition. All I can add is that we frequently think of you, and all the family
send you love and good wishes for the new year. Yours faithfully, illegible Mr. John Muir. 03811
