J June 20, 1900. R. W. GILDER, EDITOR. R. U. JOHNSON, ASSOCIATE EDITOR. C. C. BUEL, ASSISTANT EDITOR. John Muir,Esq.,
Martinez, California. My dear Muir: I am glad to get a note from you, though I think I am in your debt. So far as a hard
time, I am not killing myself, though Mr. Gilder is in Europe and has been away since the 10th of February, or earlier, but
I should be the better if you would turn up in these parts about the 10th of July and go off to the country with me somewhere
I don't know where. That is the date of Mr. Gilder's return, when I shall go off and play for a month. How comes on the Biography?
I should like to be in Martinez so as to make you work on that. I am glad to hear that you have recovered from your winter's
illness and are ready to go up the canon. Yours faithfully, with kindest regards to Mrs. Muir R. U. Johnson, 02705
