(In response to a letter and Christmas card giving a picture of the California Globe Tulip, Calochortus alba.) Los Angeles,
Cal., Jan. 27, 1911. 325 West Adams Street. Dear Mr. and Mrs. Gleason. Hearty thanks for your Christmas greetings and
good wishes. I am glad to see by the first page proofs of My First Summer in the Sierra that you are to furnish the photographs,
since you know and love the region so well and have so good an eye for what is most telling. The Calochortus alba, which I
suppose is to form one of the full-page illustrations of the book, I think is perfectly lovely. Many thanks for it. All continues
to go well as far as I know with the Sierra Club in its work, especially with reference to the preservation of Hetch-Hetchy.
I have been in Los Angeles for a month or more, writings Yosemite book, which will probably be called Yosemite and Other Yosemites.
I thought it would be an easy job, but I find that I have accumulated so many notes in the forty-two years since I first saw
it that it is going to be very difficult to keep the book within bounds, for I wish to make it a handy guide book. Possibly
I may get it off my hands sometime in the spring. With all good wishes to you both for the New Year, I am, Faithfully yours,
John Muir. 04949
