Rough draft of letter Jan. 15, 1907. Dear Mr. Bond: I thank you for the information contained in your letter of Dec.
28th last. I don't see how I will be able to describe the boundaries of the Pet rified forest N orth of Adamana by sections
even on the Santa Fe Co.'s map, without going over the ground with a surveyor. But after camping 17 days in the N. forest
and carefully examining it I am sure that all of it excepting only a few scattered outlying trunks may be comprehended in
an area of 2/3 of one township, while the three small patches strewn with trees interesting to the palaeontologist on the
W. side of the basin of dead pines (?) cover only about 2 l/2 or 2 sq. m ile s, or about 22 sections in all, as shown in the
above sketch map. Rejoicing in hope of the effective preservation of these magnificent monuments of the most ancient? forests,
