Description:
Photographic print of an advertisement that describes the growth of Mission Viejo by listing the city's services, amenities,
and recreational facilities in the mid 1970s. The advertisement is comprised of text that surrounds a centered photograph
of community members in sports and recreation attire. The advertisement was published in the Progress Report section of the
Saddleback Valley News newspaper. Text of advertisement reads, "The advantages of living in America's most successful Planned
Community. The idea. Our purpose was to develop a total, balanced community based on sound economic principles. And to insure
orderly, cohesive development with proper continuity rather than haphazard growth patterns. Because we knew we'd be here a
long, long time. So we bought the land, and then developed our master plan. Then we built the streets and constructed the
homes. We provided the recreation centers, planned the shopping areas and landscaped it with over 4.2 million dollars of trees
and shrubs. We have plans to do even more. The result. Four swimming pools (one Olympic-sized), two golf courses (one private
- one public), three very impressive recreation centers ($3.5 million), 25 tennis courts, night-lighted basket-ball and volleyball
courts, indoor handball courts, 60 Little League teams, 45 American Youth soccer teams, 12 Junior All American football teams,
wading pools, playgrounds, ping-pong, pool tables, saunas, jacuzzis, picnic areas, wooded nature areas, meeting rooms, horseback
riding, classes ranging from music to physical fitness, one hospital and two medical centers, good schools, Saddleback Community
College, a county library, the Cinema Viejo Theatre, bowling alley, Orange County Transit District Bus Service and excellent
freeway access. The ideal. We know we've set a standard. Also, we've proven we're capable of maintaining it. (Home appreciation
is extremely high.) Others will have to strive to achieve what we've already done quite well. Mission Viejo. By Mission Viejo
Company, Builders of America's Most Successful New Communities, 26137 La Paz Road, Mission Viejo, CA 92675. (714) 837-6050."
