49 POST ST. SAN FRANCISCO.CAL 2nd. SANTA CLARA STS. tel.main 75. SAN JOSE,(SanHo-Say)CALIFORNIA, May 29,09. Mr. John
Muir, Martinez, Cal. Dear Mr, Muir:- I have been appointed Committeeman at Large by several organizations and societies,
with the object in view of securing a number of prominent people to speak in this city. There are several other organizations
yet to take action, and since they seem so dilatory in this matter, and knowing that (as is your custom) you will perhaps
make an engagement with the Sierra Club for the summer, I am sending this inquiry to know whether it would be possible to
secure your services in the capacity of a lecturer sometime during the summer or fall. We wish to make these lectures as characteristic
as possible of California and California life. If you would consider an official invitation, I will seek to bring the committee
together and take some definite action immediately. Personally, I have been very desirous of meeting and hearing you. Kindly
let me hear from you at your earliest convenience, and oblige, Yours very respectfully, S. M. Dodson. 04514
