Transcription: [written above date] Stanton General Hospital Washington D.C. A very fine day. Confirmed report of the late Battle. The Enemy despondent. received 3 letters. one from my Cousin at Petersburg. one from a Conrad (1) in the 108th and one from dear Mrs. (4) Gray with a little gift in the shape of a House wife. filled in good order with pin needles. thread Buttered wax thimbles and a pair of scissors.- Muting of our Division this Evening. 7 Candidates initiated and offices [distend] for the ensuring quarters. Was appermitted A.R. Serive several distinguished visitors present exciting time during the elections feel quite well today. ------------------------------ Monday, March 27. A very fine day, confirmed reports of the late battle, the enemy despondent. Received three letters, one from my cousin at Petersburg, one from a comrade in the 108th and one from dear Mrs. Grey, with a little gift in the shape of a housewife, filled in good order with pins, needles, threads buttons wax thimbles and a pair of scissors. Meeting of our division this evening, 7 candidates initiated and officers elected for the ensuing quarter, was appointed A.P. scribe, several distinguished visitors present, exciting time during the election, feel quite well today.
