A pleasant day but cold. At work in the Office all day. Considerable work at hand. War news very good reported evacuation
of Charleston, also good news from the Potomac Army. Continued skirmishing going on in front of Petersburg. Received a letter
from home, the first I have received since my return to this city. Very welcome, feel very well.
