[written above date] Stanton General Hospital Washington D.C. Beautiful morning but wind very wrathy. Almost [illegible] tornado unroofing houses and doing much injury to Shipping. Continued success of our armys. Gold down to $1.38. Received a good cheering letter from my Betrothed dated March 18th in the Evening answered the same. Also sent [illegible] of Lennysons Poems in three vols. Felt much better. But could not work. --------------------------------- Thursday, March 23. Beautiful morning but wind very wrathy almost a tornado, unroofing house and doing much injury to shipping. Continued success of our army. Gold down to $1.58. Received a good cheering letter from my betrothed dated March 18th. In the evening answered the same, also sent copy of Tennyson poems in three vols. felt much better but could not work.
