[written above date] Stanton General Hospital Washington D.C. A really delightful day. War news good. Junction of the armies under Gen Sheridan & [illegible] at Lynchburgh. reports of a partial defeat of one of our armies. also the news of the capture of over 1000 prisoners.- Rested today. did not go out of the Hospital at all. in the morning received a good loving letter from my Betrothed. also an informal note from Cousin David. wrote a letter to Mrs. E. Grey of Rochester. Also read and received a number of old letters from my dearest Friend. feel very well. but still tired. ------------------------------ Sunday. March 12. Another delightful day. War news good, junction of the armies under Genls Sheridan and Thomas at Lynchburg, reports of a partial defeat of one of our armies, also the news of the capture of over 1000 prisoners. Rested today, did not go out of the hospital at all. In the morning received a good loving letter from my betrothed also an enclosed note from cousin David. Wrote a letter to Mrs. E. Grey of Rochester, also read or reviewed a number of old letters from my dearest friend, feel very well but still tired.
