[written above date] Stanton General Hospital Washington D.C. Beautiful day sun shining brightly, giving joy, and gently enticing by its warmth. The tender blades of grass and bright spring flowers from their winters repose, this is the last day of Winter. Heard at work printed nearly 1,000 impressions, finishing the Monthly Reports, also set up type for Dispencary Reports, feel very well. No letters received or written. Late at night an alarm of fire was given, after dilident search however, no fire could be discovered. Rumorred report of the evacuation of Petersburgh, war news good from all quarters. Gen. Lee reported gone to meet Gen. Sherman. -------------------------------- Tuesday, February 28.
