[written above date] Stanton Gen'l Hospital Washington D.C. Pleasant but quite cold. At work as usual in the office not much to do. Did not go out at all. Not feeling very well. Received a letter from (2) my Friend Miss [Leibbie] E. [Hefellges] of Rochester in answer to mine of the 21st vist, a good letter. In the afternoon wrote a letter to my love Judith. No news from home. War news good. Sermon says the enemy is about to send Peace Commissions. At Washington, attended church in the Hospital, sermon by Rev. W.H.L [Charming]. "Sunday-church doors enter in, Rest from toil, repent of sin; Strive a heavenly rest to [swim]." --------------------------------- Sunday, January 29. Hedges of Rochester in answer to mine of the 21st inst, a good letter. In the afternoon wrote a letter to my loved Judith, no news from home. War news good, rumour says the enemy are about to send peace commissioners to Washington. Attended church in hospital, sermon by Rev. W.H.
