Wet dready day. I [illegible] of Govenor Brown of Georgie. Nothing to do. Feel quite well. in the evening helped on the [illegible] out [illegible] of E. [illegible]. Received a good letter from my unknown friend Gertie L. in the evening commenced answer to the same. No news from home or from Judith. "Oh dear what can the matter be." ------------------------------- Saturday, May 20. Very dreary day. Capture of Governor Brown of Georgia. [5.] Nothing to do. Feel quite well. In the evening helped on the muster out rolls of 18 men, received a good letter from my unknown friend Gertie T. In the evening commenced answer to the same. No news from home or from Judith “Oh Dear What can the matter be” Note: 5. Joseph Emerson Brown (April 1821-Nov.1894) was held briefly in Washington as a political prisoner.
