Title from item. On back of item: "Before modernization". The
photograph depicts the flagship location of National Dollar Stores, that Joe Shoong of Oakland
developed into a large and lucrative regional chain after acquiring and renaming the Oakland
Toggery. The original name is retained on the sign of a small shop adjacent to the successor
store.
