Daggett, Ca. July 15th Dear Papa I was glad to get your second good letter from the mountains and know you are enjoying
it so. Im glad you are taking such a good rest. Everything is cheerful here. Im well and happy as ever and still enjoy the
heat. It hasnt been so hot this last week but still holds it's own. There was a big fire in Daggett night before last and
burned up half the business side of town. The fire started, no one knows how, in the Hotel, and as everything is so desperately
dry here it spread fearfully fast. Fire engines came from Otis and Barstow and did good work. The wind was all that saved
that whole side of town from going as it blew from the upper end of town and the fire started at the lower end. It was a great
sight - the desert was lighted up for miles around. The people are very brave about it though they lost a great deal. I'll
write again in a day or two. Some one is going to town now so good-bye. Always yours Helen 04241
