Martinez July 9th 1902 Dear Mr Johnson: Ive just finished the Canon All the huge thing crowded into 8000 words or less.
The toughest job I ever tackled. Please tell the Century Co. that I want 250 for it, with the understanding that if I should
wish to use it in some other form after a year or so I may In a day or two I start for Kings R. Yosemite 'twould be glorious
to have you with me. Besides I have long been owing you a trip I mean to pitch into that Yosemite book next, which I don't
believe will be half as hard or long a job as the one big little Canon Article. And by the way I may as well say here that
I shall expect the Cent Co. to offer better terms for this coming book than they allowed for my first. Houghton Mifflin did
immensely better by me. Copyright on the Parks for the first 2 months was more than the Mountains came to in the first five
years. Anyhow whether the Century Co brings it out or not I mean to beg leave to dedicate it to R. U. J. for many reasons.
I would like to see proof of the Canon Article. May it please you. Ever Yours John Muir Better send two copies of proof
in case one goes astray in the forwarding to the Mountains10035
