S. S. Hankow Canton to Hong Kong Sept 29th 1905 To Prof. John Muir, California Dear Sir:- If you remember when
you took the trip to Canton I was your fellow passenger for the trip up, and during our conversation you asked me to get you
some specimens of the fruit of the large shade trees in Canton also some specimens of the scrubb fur or pine with which all
the hills are covered. This I did and sent them away by mail to the address you gave me; but never having received any reply
to the letter which accompanied them I judged they had been lost in transit. I then made up my mind to write again, but found
I had lost the address so I put it off. Shortly after this I was sent to a small place well into the interior of Kwang-Si
and as mail has to go so far by courier 03640
