Los Angeles, Calif., July 26, 1912 Dear Mr. Muir:- We have received your letter of congratulations and were very glad
to hear from you and know that you have enjoyed your trip. I suppose you are anxious to know all about Helen and our new baby.
In the first place Helen was not sick very long and got along very very well. Doctor Cole is certainly very efficient. The
baby is a fine good looking healthy little Shaffer and is doing very nicely. He had a slight breaking out on his body and
face, due probably, to the heat as we have had some very warm weather lately, but he is getting; along all right and the doctor
told Helen not to worry at all. I took Helen to the hospital at five o'clock and the baby was born at 8:45 that evening, July
17th. I expect that Helen will be able to sit up tomorrow, though she is taking a good rest and we certainly will not let
her exert herself too soon. I have made arrangements for another girl when she goes home from the hospital, so that she will
have absolutely nothing to do but nurse her baby. Naturally we are very much pleased that it was a boy. When Muir first saw
the baby he gave a delighted little squeal and wanted to kiss him. He seems perfectly contented at the house with Olive but
when he sees his mamma he wants to climb all over her and cuddle. We have had no trouble in getting him to go home from the
