THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON April 27, 1908. My dear Mr. Muir: I have your letter of the 21st. Do not run down those
men too much. Benjamin Ide Wheeler and other good fellows among them. I am trying to see if we can not leave the things on
the line that you indicate - that is, damming Lake Eleanor and letting San Francisco depend for a generation or so upon that
and the Tuolumne tributaries. But of course I must see that San Francisco has an adequate water supply. With regard, believe
me, Sincerely yours, illegible Mr. John Muir, Martinez, California. 04162
